Christianity uses the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh) as its source of authority and validation of its particular brand of Abrahamic religion as do Judaism, Islam and Mormonism. The Christian myth grew by claiming the Hebrew bible as authority while absorbing pagan cults. Like the child-god in the cult of Dionysus, Jesus had a virgin mother and was in swaddling clothes in a basket manger. He was born in a stable like Horus — the stable temple of the Virgin Goddess Isis, Queen of Heaven. Like Dionysus, Jesus turned water into wine and like Mithra, the resurrection was from a rock tomb.
A "man-god" whose death atones for the sins of men; who then descends into darkness and rises again to bring life — is NOT new. "The Christian devil" hell fire and heaven are also just fictions.

For 2,000 years churches have cleverly hidden, behind a cloak of "blind faith," that Jesus and the New Testament are FICTION! "Believers" of any Abrahamic Derivative Religion suffer from a shared psychotic delusion ― Reality Deficit Disorder. They are mentally ill.

If one considers adopting any Abrahamic religion, instead you would be well advised to choose George Carlin's (1937-2008) religion ― Frisbeetarianism.
